Breitling Colt Automatic Watch

Posted by Schwarzschild at 12:00:00 AM in Breitling (27)

Since 1884, Breitling has made chronographs known for their precision and sturdiness. As the official supplier to World Aviation, Breitling is one of very few companies to produce their own mechanical chronograph movements. Breitling is not only one of the last independent Swiss watch brands, but a family company as well.

The 1980’s saw the introduction of Breitling’s Colt series. The Breitling Colt Automatic holds the classic style of the original Colt, which was created to be a military watch. The Colt Automatic maintains the military feel, sticking true to the principles of readability and reliability.

The watch has a diameter of 44mm, keeping the size large enough to be able to read with ease. The minimalist design of the Colt Automatic, alongside the glare-proofed sapphire crystal, add to the readability. The unidirectional rotating bezel is equipped with raised cursors at the quarter hour marks. The quarter hour cursors are a common addition to Breitling watches.

The Colt Automatic is not only reliable in its function, but in design as well. The Colt Automatic rarely deviates from the correct time. The self-winding mechanical movement plays a large part in this. Due to the inspiration that it be designed as a military watch, the accuracy and reliability in the Automatic are high.

The design of the Colt Automatic is one of a sturdy watch. The steel casing and screwed in back ensure the inner workings of the watch stay safe. The Colt Automatic is water resistant to 200 meters (660 feet), which makes it usable as a divers watch as well.

The Measure of a watch

Posted by Schwarzschild at 3:00:50 AM in Breitling (27)

Most precision engineered luxury timepiece signatures are proud of their centuries-old Swiss heritage. They take pride in the fact that Swiss watchmakers were renowned throughout history for their highly skilled attention to details and mastery of putting together minute pieces. But one brand begs to differ. Instead, it brags about its industrial past. To Breitling, none is more credible as a watchmaker than perhaps a brand that used to create industrial watches for aerospace companies, where precision can spell the difference between life and death. Breitling manufactured cockpit instruments. It's the same technology that the company now applies to making wristwatches like the Breitling Navitimer. This model is a favorite among pilots in the airline industry and it's not hard to see why. The brand evokes of reliability and endurance, a maker of watches that passes even the strictest industrial benchmarks.

How to look really cool

Posted by Schwarzschild at 3:21:08 PM in Breitling (27)

James Dean was the epitome of coolness, but he didn’t have the monopoly on it. You, too, can look cool without even appearing that you’re trying. Here are some tips. Wear an all-black wardrobe at one point in your life. Then lean on a white fence or wall and you’ll look stunningly like in a black-and-white portrait. Coif the hair. Put some gel and give it a swagger look. Wear an off-looking outfit like a tweed jacket with an attitude. You have to show that you can carry the oddity and still come up chic. You can also do this with a watch. For instance, wear a Breitling Navitimer in a suit. Although the timepiece looks complex, its black tones can match a formal wear. Complement it with a really piercing stare and you’re off to being the next James Dean.

Tips to take care of tough watches

Posted by Schwarzschild at 1:52:39 PM in Breitling (27)

Watch brands like Breitling may be built for tough environments, but like any other instruments, they still need to be taken care of to make them last. They are luxury symbols, the more you care for them, the better they will reflect on your personality. Here are some tips on how to take care of signature watches. Unless they are made specifically for underwater, don’t wear them in water or while taking a shower. Sure, they are water-resistant or they can withstand being wet. But why would you want to unnecessarily subject it to a tough situation? Likewise, wear it with care. Even if it says it’s scratch-proof or tough to break, it doesn’t mean you should test it to its limits. Also clean the watch regularly, perhaps weekly, with soft brush slightly dipped in lukewarm soapy water. This will keep its luster.

Correct time everywhere you go

Posted by Schwarzschild at 8:47:44 AM in Breitling (27)

Breitling’s Transocean Unitime Watch showcases the Transocean collection’s known durability and utility plus a new array of exciting offerings. Designed for the frequent traveller, its Unitime (universal time) feature centers around two moving discs introduced to the dial — a 24-hour disc that functions together with another reference city ring disc — both work to tell the time in each of the 24 primary timezones (based on the local time). Built on the “01” movement, only the hour needs adjustment when changing time zones, which helps preserve the watch accuracy when setting the time. The date also changes automatically when adjusting the watch backwards or forward, which is inevitable when travelling in different timezones. Offered in both white and black dial variants, Unitime is available in 18k red gold or steel, which gives a vintage look but with sophisticated technology. If you want to travel the world in style and utility, the Breitling Unitime is the watch that you need.

It’s chic marrying precision. British suave meeting Swiss luxury. Breitling marrying Bentley. It’s the ultimate fusion of fashion and wealth brands. For Breitling it’s only natural to align itself with the world’s most admired and aspired to brands. It is by itself a name that the most sophisticated gentleman would wear. But the timepiece signature is more than a luxury watch; it’s an engineering marvel that runs with elegance and accuracy like the engine that runs a Bentley. The complication allows for an exact reading or measured times. The casing is an artwork, like a masterpiece crafted by piece by piece. If there’s a beat missed, it is likely the beat of someone’s heart that can’t get enough of Breitling’s impressive design and make.

Wear not just time but heritage

Posted by Schwarzschild at 12:26:05 PM in Breitling (27)

It’s the heritage. When someone asks you why you choose a particular luxury timepiece brand, tell him it’s the history of excellence that goes with the signature. That’s what you are really paying the price for, the value of the brand. Any highly skilled watchmaker can make a stylish luxury watch. Precision engineering technologies are readily available to big watch companies to manufacture highly accurate watches. A brand can easily make popular with a big marketing budget and celebrity endorsements. Setting the watch with precious stones and metals make it elegant, stylish and, yes, luxurious. But not all can tell a beginning like inventing the modern chronograph or being the first chronograph in space or being the standard time-keeping device from the early to the present day of commercial aviation. Only a Breitling can. Wear heritage, not just a timepiece.

Look Ma! No winding!

Posted by Schwarzschild at 9:48:37 AM in Breitling (27)

During the 1770s, a Swiss watchmaker named Abraham-Louis Perrelet developed the first self-winding mechanism for pocket watches. Working on the same principle as the pedometer, the mechanism was designed to wind itself while the wearer is in motion.  A 15-minute walk was required then to fully wind such watches to last for eight days. However, credit for the invention did not go to Perrelet as it was Hubert Sarton who drew the first accurate description of the watch for the French Academy of Sciences in 1778. Today, Breitling continues this legacy of creating fine self-winding watches in its Chronomat 41. This elegantly crafted watch makes use of the self-winding chronograph Manufacture Caliber 01 motor. Its lustrously designed case, which makes it a one-size fits all timepiece, comes in steel and rose gold. This watch is a fitting gift for men who want style and functionality.

Like a fish out of water

Posted by Schwarzschild at 1:00:00 AM in Breitling (27)

Despite the numerous modern day applications of the chronograph, the device was originally developed with only one thing in mind…to please a king. In 1821, King Louis XVIII tasked Nicolas Rieussec to invent a device that could determine how long a horse race will last. The contraption was the predecessor to the automatic chronograph developed in 1969 by Breitling in partnership with other firms. The first automatic chronograph was called Chronomatic. To this day, Breitling continues to drive innovation in chronograph design. The company’s Chronomat 44 Flying Fish has been proven to withstand the rigors of deep-sea diving, capable of working in depths of up to 1,650 feet. The Chronomat 44 comes with an all-black dial, encased in a pure steel body.  The watch is a must have for divers who value time.
