Swiss Army has been a household name in the pocket knife industry since 1884. The company is known for its superb quality that only the Swiss can deliver and has been supplying materials to many important private and public entities such as the Swiss Army and NASA. This same sentiment in quality also applies to their extensive timepiece collection. Their watches were first introduced in 1989 and has been delivering excellence in time ever since.

The Airboss Mechanical is a stainless steel watch featured with automatic movement. The sky is the limit as this aviator watch was engineered with true heights in mind. With a 42mm diameter dark gray face and a silver grinded finish, the watch is a statement of boldness and character. It's triple coated for complete scratch resistance. It features a date and military time option. It's also made with a clear back and an anti-reflective sapphire crystal front. This watch also has water resistance capabilities of up to 330 feet.

Outdoor adventure essentials

Posted by Schwarzschild at 1:00:00 AM in Swiss Army (24)

It’s summer and it’s time to plan for that outdoor adventure. Whether you’re traveling as a group with family or friends, or doing it on your own, here are some essentials to bring to make sure your adventure stays safe and fun. Get a printed map, yes, because Google maps is only as good as you have batteries in your phone. On the same note, get a real compass, one that doesn’t require power. Also choose a headlamp that’s small but stays on longer. Big, bulky headlamps usually run out of power fast. Bring a first aid kit, too, consisting of meds for headaches, stomach aches… and also dressing gauze, cottons, dressing solution, and other basic emergency necessities. Bring a strong rope—you don’t know where to use it but you’ll find it a lifesaver when emergency strikes. Lastly, don't forget the Swiss Army knife. Enjoy the outdoors this summer!

Remade in Switzerland

Posted by Schwarzschild at 7:06:09 PM in Swiss Army (24)

I love brands that continue to reinvent themselves through innovations, be it in engineering, design or plain aesthetics. And one brand which I always follow is Victorinox Swiss Army watches. This 2015, they actually gave us a treat. I'm not sure if you guys have caught on to it but if you haven't let me run you through what had happened. This year, the company expanded its INOX watch collection. The innovation did not come from tweaking much of it. Just as like as the old adage - if it ain't broken, don't fix it. So what the company did with this collection is that they added more fun things. My favorite among the collection is the Swiss Army INOX Remade in Switzerland. This features a base INOX watch with a green dial but the company added leather from vintage Swiss army military bags for the strap and case protector. This might be the coolest thing I've seen this year from the company.

Swiss Army in Paracord Bracelets

Posted by Schwarzschild at 9:00:00 AM in Swiss Army (24)

The successful run of Victorinox Swiss Army INOX watch collection continues in 2015 with some exciting new limited edition models to the already wonderful line. One such addition is the Victorinox Swiss Army INOX Naimakka timepieces, which maybe taken as a niche design. Naimakka is a maker of paracord bracelets (originally from parachute cord, thus paracord), which are specially woven chunky bracelets that are used as a basic survival tool and is a staple among outdoor adventure enthusiasts. The U.S. military had adopted paracord as a standard military equipment and has multiple of uses, such as for securing things, for building shelters and a myriad of practical uses. Even NASA had embraced the paracord and made it as part an astronaut's gears for outer space missions. Integrating some innovations into these plain lifesaver instruments, Naimakka paracord bracelets had emerged as a fashion item for both actual adventurers as well as those who just want to appear adventurous. For this year, Swiss Army had followed suit and used it as the bracelet of the new Victorinox Swiss Army INOX Naimakka watch collection.

The Original iPhone

Posted by Schwarzschild at 12:00:00 PM in Swiss Army (24)

Call it the lightweight cousin of the iconic Swiss Army pocket knife. The Huntsman  is a medium pocket knife at 91mm designed for hunting or camping with some additions to the legendary Officer's Knife. A wood saw and scissors are included in the set to help you cut through ropes, wood, or just about anything. This pocket knife also features the standard Swiss Army functions, including: large and small blades; can opener with screwdriver; cap lifter; wire stripper; corkscrew; punch; reamer; key ring; tweezers; and, yes, that toothpick. It's the original iPhone that has all you need when you're out in an adventure. Users find the tools useful (think of apps today) when they're on off-the-beaten paths. In fact, the only missing part is an iPhone, maybe.

Swiss Army’s Infantry Mechanical

Posted by Schwarzschild at 2:23:40 PM in Swiss Army (24)

Swiss Army has always been an iconic Swiss brand since the inception of the Original Swiss Army Knife – a revolutionary product that has been said to have helped saved lives and had been a companion in human adventures like expeditions on land, under the sea or up in outer space. But this isn’t just what Swiss Army now does. It has a wide range of products that showcases the same ingenuity, durability and functionality that the Original Swiss Army Knife did. One of its newer yet almost a classic product lines is the timepieces line. One of the most appreciated models in the mechanical models is the Infantry Mechanical – a model that runs on a self-winding ETA 2824-2 Movement. It has a 40mm diameter gold-treated stainless steel case and is water resistant up to 100m. The model has luminescent hands and a date calendar. The model offers a classic look of a durable and smart manly man that’s perfect for those who are on the go and for those who want a nice timepiece to go with a suit.

The Quartz Crisis

Posted by Schwarzschild at 1:27:19 PM in Swiss Army (24)

In the seventies, a new breed of watches was challenging the dominance of Swiss mechanical watches worldwide. The quartz technology, featuring battery-powered movement that matches the precision timing of Swiss watches at a fraction of cost, would dominate the watch market by 1978. It’s a battle between Japanese brands and Swiss brands. But did you know quartz originated in, of all places, Switzerland? Max Hetzel, a Swiss engineer, was the first to develop an electronic wristwatch that relied on electrical charges. Because of their huge global market share Swiss watchmakers at that time thought little about quartz. It was the Japanese that  would innovate the technology and develop it into affordable electronic watches. The Swiss watch industry was reduced to a fraction of the quartz market. But thanks to nostalgia and the world’s newfound love for mechanical movement like the Swiss Army watches, it became a high-niche market.

The Infantry watch

Posted by Schwarzschild at 3:40:58 PM in Swiss Army (24)

The Swiss Army knife was inspired by military necessity, a utility pocket knife with multiple uses in the field. A knife, screwdriver, scissors, tweezers, toothpick, ruler, etc… all in the pocket of an infantryman. Not surprisingly, Swiss Army has a watch model inspired by the ubiquitous foot soldier. The Infantry Chronograph has the brown finish look of vintage infantryman, but it’s actually a sports watch. It’s outfitted with a Ronda 5030-D quartz movement. It features three dial counters with conventional pushbuttons in each side of the crown. The sleek casing is at once rugged and elegant, and the dials and numbers against the deep brown backdrop elicit a vintage look. This sports watch can easily transforms into a dress watch style in casual, semi-formal suit.

Swiss mastery of time

Posted by Schwarzschild at 3:00:52 PM in Swiss Army (24)

You’ve grown to love the precision engineering in your Swiss Army knife. It’s detailed exactly to remain sharp all the time and its numerous tools confined perfectly in a small space. Such is the drive for perfection of Swiss engineers. But did you know the company behind the iconic pocket knife has a line of luxury watches, too? Where else can timepieces made with precision and art than in Switzerland and Swiss Army watches are no exception. The Infantry Mechanical features a self-winding mechanical ETA 2824-2 movement. On the other hand, the AirBoss Mechanical Chronograph Limited Edition exhibits diamond-cut striations on the dial tracks and embossed, luminescent numerals. Meantime, the Dive Master 500 Chronograph has the endurance and stylistic bulk appearance of the best dive watches around. These are some of the high-end Swiss Army watches yours for the taking.

Swiss victories

Posted by Schwarzschild at 2:19:07 PM in Swiss Army (24)

The Victorinox Swiss Army is more than just a collection of little implements in your pocket. It’s a collection of dramatic stories that people around the world had experienced with this iconic knife. Here are some of them. In 1938, a farmer almost lost his horse and cart to a swamp, but, thanks to the Swiss Army knife, he was able to cut the harness in time to free the horses just as they started sinking.  In 1999, a daughter gifted her fisherman father a pocket knife. One day, the father got entangled with the shrimp net that almost took him into the deep water and sure death. He was able to cut loose with the knife he always held in his pocket. And here’s one of the weirdest tests for the knife. A man was eating a fish platter when a bone got stuck in his throat. Gasping for air, he reached to his Swiss knife, used the tweezers and plucked out the bone just in time.

For mother

Posted by Schwarzschild at 10:32:49 AM in Swiss Army (24)

In 1909, Victorinox Swiss Army founder Karl Elsener named his company after her beloved mom, Victoria, as a loving tribute of a son to his mother. When stainless steel — acier inoxydable in French or “inox” for short — was introduced into the company product line in 1921, Victoria became Victorinox. Such immortal bond between mother and son is further expressed in the company’s ever-growing Victoria Collection of classic timepieces dedicated for the founder's mother. Tranquil and elegantly feminine, the new Victoria Diamond Victorinox Swiss Army watch is naturally straightforward and simple, just like any loving mother. But don’t get fooled by its simplicity because this watch actually boasts of many exciting features. It is scratch-resistant with its triple-coated anti-reflective sapphire crystal, is water resistant up to 100m as well as a 28 mm stainless steel case and stainless steel bracelet. What's more, the Victoria Diamond features a charming bezel set with 56 full-cut diamonds totalling to around 0.38 carats.

Truly feminine, timeless, and exquisitely understated, the Victoria Diamond Victorinox Swiss Army watch is simply perfect for any occasion. Get one now at Schwarzschild’s on Alverser Drive.

Diver Down

Posted by Schwarzschild at 8:04:18 AM in Swiss Army (24)

Nothing drives motivation like a owning a Swiss Army watch. Like in this story--

A father is standing beside his son on the edge of a dock. The father is teaching his son how to dive. More than anything the son wants to be like his father, a master diver, but lacks the extra ounce of courage needed to make the plunge. The father loosens his Dive Master 500 Swiss Army watch. The watch is water resistant to 500 meters, ideal for any diver. The father offers the son the watch, but he must earn it by diving. To prove his end of the bargain, the father suddenly tosses the watch into the water. The son makes the perfect dive, returning to the surface with the sport red watch already on his wrist.  For the son it’s more than a durable watch. It’s his rite of passage!

The New Army Has Arrived

Posted by Schwarzschild at 3:49:35 PM in Swiss Army (24)

It’s one of those little innovations that made living more convenient. That is, if you’re living outdoors. The Original Swiss Army knife, the little red utility pocket knife that campers and outdoor lovers have entrusted their cooking and accommodation—and sometimes welfare—for decades now is today as indispensible as air and water when enjoying the great outdoors. But maybe it’s time to replace this reliable old friend. The Swiss Army line of other utility pocket knives offers the same flexibility and functionality that take inspiration from their old man. There’s an elegant stainless, grey pocket knife that you can easily tuck in in the tightest pocket or nook in your small bag. Another knife has fewer tools but kept the most essential; it’s perfect if you’re traveling light. Yet another features a USB stick, something that has become as essential as the blade when traveling. The new army has arrived, but, thankfully, they all exhibit the same reliability and downright functionality of the old army, but with a little flair this time.

Caring for Ceramic Knife

Posted by Schwarzschild at 2:40:57 PM in Swiss Army (24)

Ceramic knives are popular among celebrity chefs for their sharpness and, need we say, glamor appeal? The blade is extremely sharp and lasts longer than steel knives. But it can easily break when dropped or put in high heat. Generally, ceramic knives are best to cut vegetables and soft meat. In the hands of a master chef, a ceramic knife can make cutting wonders. Here are a few care tips from Swiss Army—it’s also a top brand for cutlery—to make sure your ceramic knife lasts longer. Use the ceramic knife for cutting only; it’s not intended for hitting or levering. Use wood or plastic as cutting surfaces to ensure the blade stays sharp longer. Clean the blade with mild detergent; don’t use wire brush. If you’re using the dishwasher make sure the knife won’t get in contact with other objects. Follow these tips and your Swiss Army ceramic knife will last a lifetime.

Airmen anthology

Posted by Schwarzschild at 1:35:29 PM in Swiss Army (24)

The Swiss Air Force was established as part of the army in 1936 as an independent service. Operating from several bases around the country, the air force makes the Dubendorf as headquarters during peace time. Traditionally, the service is composed of militia, including its pilots. However, the Air Force has undergone significant downsizing, it is currently a 1600-strong military organization. One of the service's main helicopter bases Alpnach has served as inspiration for master watchmaker Swiss Army's Alpnach Mechanical Chronograph Limited Edition. The base, which sits at 445 meters is also incidentally the number of pieces released for this edition. The Alpnach's design also reflects the features of the AS 532 Cougar helicopter. Like all things military, this timepiece is made sturdy with a pure stainless steel casing. It is also scratch resistant and water resistant up to 100 meters. The Alpnach is truly a befitting tribute to the prestige of an organization as the Swiss Air Force.
