Tissot’s Gentleman with the Powermatic Movement
Tissot’s Gentleman with the Powermatic Movement

When simplicity calls to you more than eclectic designs, the Tissot Gentleman is the straightforward timepiece you’re looking for. The Gentlemen is a 40mm watch launching with several versions in the US. You will be able to find it in black, blue, and white dial models with both a steel bracelet and on a strap.

One thing that many notice about the Tissot Gentleman is a familiar nod to a design seen from a much more expensive brand. It’s a classic look that has been employed for decades, but Tissot has made it much more accessible and easier on the wallet. But just because Tissot has made the Gentleman at a lower price point doesn’t mean they have skimped on the quality.

The movement is the 80-hour Powermatic movement with a silicon hairspring. The long-lasting Powermatic movement together with the non-magnetic balance spring is giving you a suite of technical features generally associated with much more expensive watches.

The original version of the Tissot Gentleman came out in February with a slightly different handset, a crosshair dial, and was two-tone with a solid gold bezel. In the newest version, the gold bezel has been replaced with polished steel, the crosshairs are gone, and the alpha hands are now slightly squared off.

Keen observers of timepieces will also note that the Tissot Gentlemen gets its inspiration from a Tissot model of the 1960s, giving this the classic look of the sharp-dressed-men of the mid-century. It will definitely catch the eye while staying unobtrusive. It certainly earns the name “Gentleman.”

One final thing to be aware of: this particular version of the Tissot Gentleman existed before the addition of the Powermatic movement. You might see a version of these at Tissot’s website priced at about $375. Those Gentlemen watches from Tissot are the quartz version, and do not feature the Powermatic movement.
